Dooars was derived from the word 'doors', the region form a gateway to
the hill stations of North Bengal and Assam in India and Bhutan–
an area preserved in its pristine state, guarded by the foothills of the
great Himalayas. Spread over a vast stretch of land 130 kms by 40 kms
the air is pure and the vistas green with coniferous trees and the verdant
splendour of tea gardens that give the world its favourite variety of
tea – the Darjeeling Tea. The region is famous for its wildlife
sanctuaries and national parks, the most notable of which is Gorumara
and Jaldapara. The forests in the Dooars have a large variety of deer,
namely, the sambar, barking deer, spotted deer and the hog deer. The Gorumara
National Park is another haven, is known for its flora and fauna, rich
wild life, which includes the indian one horned rhino, elephants, leopards,
indian guars, wild boar, reptiles, birds and fishes. It’s a land
of hills and forests, with many secrets for the traveller to discover
– crowned by the possibility of a glimpse of the awe-inspiring Kanchenjungha,
